Software Development

Internal tools. SaaS platforms. iOS apps. Built by your web team.

Websites are still most of what we do. But when a business needs software rather than a site, we build that too. Same stack, same security standard, same people.

Same Team, Wider Scope

We didn't stop building websites.
We started building what sits behind them.

Websites are still the majority of what Shadowtek does, and that is not changing. Astro builds and WordPress sites remain the core of the business.

What changed is what clients started asking for. A quoting system that talks to their scheduling. A dashboard that pulls numbers out of four different tools. A customer portal. An app. Requests a website genuinely cannot answer, no matter how well it is built.

For years the answer was to refer that work elsewhere. Now we build it ourselves, on the same stack and behind the same security standard as everything else we run.

What we build

Three kinds of software.
One team behind all of them.

Whether it runs inside your business, sells to customers, or lives on a phone, it is built by the same people who already look after your website.

Internal Business Apps

The tool your business actually runs on, instead of six spreadsheets and someone's memory. Job tracking, quoting, scheduling, inventory, approvals, client portals, and dashboards that pull your real numbers into one place.

Built around your process, not a template

SaaS Products

A product you can sell, not a project that stalls. User accounts, subscription billing, multi-tenant architecture, and an admin side that lets you actually run it. Built to launch, then built to grow.

From idea to paying customers

iOS Apps

Native iOS apps, submitted and shipped to the App Store. Subscription and credit-based monetisation wired in properly, so the payment side works from day one rather than being bolted on later.

On the App Store, not stuck in review

Plenty of projects are more than one of these. A SaaS product usually needs a marketing site, a web app, and eventually an iOS app. We build the whole thing rather than handing you between three suppliers.

Proof

We didn't read about this.
We shipped our own product.

Flipsellr is a Shadowtek product. It is all three services on this page, built and shipped by the same team you would be hiring.

Marketing site

Static Astro build on Cloudflare. Fast, no attack surface, the same standard we hold client sites to.

Web application

React and TypeScript app with user accounts, real product logic, and an admin side behind it.

iOS app

Native iOS build taken through Apple's review process and shipped to the App Store.

Credit-based monetisation

Purchasing, entitlements, and billing wired across web and mobile so the money side works properly.

Every decision on your project comes from having made the same decisions with our own money on the line. We know where these builds get expensive, because we have paid for it ourselves.

How It Works

Nobody quotes custom software honestly
without scoping it first.

A number given before anyone understands the problem is a guess. Guesses are how software projects end up double the price and six months late. So we scope properly, then quote a fixed price.

01

Discovery Sprint

Half a day mapping what the software has to do, who uses it, and what it connects to. You get a written spec and a fixed price.

02

Build

Built to the agreed spec at the agreed price, with working software to look at as it progresses rather than a status report at the end.

03

Launch & Support

Deployed on infrastructure we already run, with ongoing support agreed before launch. Software needs maintenance the same way a website does.

Discovery Sprint

$1,440

Credited in full against your build

  • A working session to map what the software actually needs to do
  • Written technical specification you own and keep
  • Recommended architecture, stack, and infrastructure
  • Fixed-price quote to build it, no estimates that move later
  • An honest recommendation, including when the answer is that you do not need this
Book a Discovery Sprint

If you proceed with the build, the full $1,440 comes off your first invoice. If you don't, you keep the specification and the quote and you're free to take them anywhere.

Prices in AUD. Build cost is quoted per project after discovery.

The Stack

Boring technology, chosen on purpose.

We build on the same stack we run our own products and our clients' sites on. Not whatever is trending. Software you cannot hire anyone else to maintain is a liability, not an asset.

React & TypeScript

The most hireable front-end stack in the world. Your next developer already knows it.

Astro

Static marketing sites that load instantly and give attackers nothing to work with.

Cloudflare

Workers, D1, R2 and KV. Global by default, with our hardening standard in front of it.

Native iOS

Built for the platform, with subscription and credit billing wired in from the start.

Everything we build sits behind the same Cloudflare security standard as the websites we manage. Security is not a phase at the end of the project. It is how the thing is built.

FAQ

Software Development FAQ

Straight answers about scope, cost, ownership, and whether you need this at all.

Do I actually need custom software, or will a website do?
Most of the time a website does the job, and we will say so. Websites are still the bulk of our work. Custom software is worth it when your business is running on spreadsheets, on a manual process someone has to remember, or on a tool that almost fits but not quite. If a well-built website or an existing off-the-shelf product solves your problem for a fraction of the cost, that is the advice you will get from us.
What happens in the discovery sprint?
A working session where we map what the software actually needs to do, who uses it, and what it connects to. You come away with a written technical specification, a recommended architecture and stack, and a fixed price to build it. If the honest answer is that you do not need custom software, we tell you that and you still keep the spec.
Is the $1,440 really credited against the build?
Yes, in full. If you proceed with the build, the entire sprint fee comes off your first invoice. If you do not proceed, you keep the specification and the quote and you are free to take them to another developer. The sprint is a real deliverable, not a sales meeting with a price tag.
Who owns the code?
You do. Full ownership of the source code, the repository, and the infrastructure accounts. We build in your accounts wherever practical so nothing is locked behind ours. If you ever want to move to another developer, you take everything with you and we will help with the handover.
What does a build actually cost?
It depends entirely on scope, which is exactly why the discovery sprint exists. A focused internal tool that replaces one spreadsheet is a very different job to a multi-tenant SaaS platform with billing and an iOS app. Rather than quote a range that means nothing, we scope your specific project properly and give you a fixed price before you commit to anything.
Do you build Android apps as well as iOS?
We build iOS. If Android matters to your business, raise it at discovery and we will give you a straight answer on whether a cross-platform approach fits your project or whether you would be better served by a specialist. We would rather tell you up front than take on work we are not the right fit for.
How is this different from hiring a developer directly?
You get a team that already runs production infrastructure, security, and hosting for a fleet of Australian businesses. The software we build sits behind the same Cloudflare hardening standard as every site we manage. When something breaks at 2am, there is a business behind it rather than one person who might be on holiday.
What happens after the software launches?
Software needs maintenance the same way a website does. Dependencies age, operating systems change, and Apple updates its App Store requirements. We offer ongoing support and maintenance for everything we build, scoped to the project. This is agreed before launch so there are no surprises.

Not sure if you need software or just a better website? That's the first thing we'll tell you.

Half a day with us and you walk away with a written spec, a fixed price to build it, and an honest answer on whether custom software is even the right call.
