Shadowtek was founded in Queensland in 2015. Ten years of WordPress work taught us exactly where websites fail: security patched too late, hosting that can't handle load, agencies that disappear after launch. Everything we do now is built around fixing those failure points.
How We Got Here
Ten years. Two stacks. One constant.
For the first years, every project was WordPress. We got deep into it — custom builds, server optimisation, plugin architecture, security hardening. We learned what makes WordPress sites excellent. More importantly, we learned exactly what makes them fail: updates skipped too long, plugins with known vulnerabilities, hosting stacks that buckle under real traffic, agencies that built the site and left.
Security became non-negotiable. Not as a service add-on — as a default. Cloudflare WAF on every site. Imunify360 on every server. Login hardening, file permission rules, malware monitoring. We stopped treating security as something a client opts into and started treating it as something we could not ship without.
Years of working inside WordPress revealed its limits. Plugin overhead. PHP rendering on every request. Attack surface that no amount of hardening fully eliminates. Astro solves problems we spent years working around. No runtime to exploit, no plugin ecosystem to manage, static files that load in milliseconds. Our WordPress expertise is exactly why we know Astro is the better call for most modern builds.
Through all of it, one thing has not changed: Cloudflare on everything, always. Whether a site runs on WordPress or Astro, it goes behind Cloudflare WAF with DDoS rules configured from day one. That is not a product tier. That is how we build.

I founded Shadowtek after years of building and securing WordPress infrastructure at scale. My background in server engineering, CloudLinux optimization, and WordPress security shaped how we approach every project — from the backend out.
Today, Shadowtek builds and maintains WordPress and Astro websites for Australian businesses that treat their online presence as infrastructure, not decoration.
